Overview

Motor City Electric Utilities (MCEU) was contracted to provide EPC (Engineer, Procure, and Construct) services for the Tibbits Energy Storage Project. This project involves the construction of a nominally 100MW/400MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility located in Coldwater, Michigan.

Key Components:

  • Battery Equipment: The BESS portion includes 93 Hithium battery containers and 31 SMA medium voltage power stations.
  • Substation Construction: The project includes the construction of a new 34.5kV/138kV substation and its interconnection to a substation owned by METC.

Scope of Work:

  • Site grading
  • All foundations
  • Civil and stormwater management
  • Fire protection
  • Electrical construction and testing for the Hithium BESS system
  • Construction of a 138kV collector substation
