Overview

Motor City Electric Utilities (MCEU) played a significant role in the Cadence Energy Solar project located in Marysville, OH. This 240 megawatt (MW) facility harnesses solar energy to power approximately 45,000 homes annually. The project included the construction of a Multi-Transformer 345kV Substation and a complex 1.5-mile 345kV Transmission Line. Construction began in May 2024 and was completed in April 2025.

Transmission Line:

  • The 1.5-mile transmission line featured parallel 795 kcmil ACSR “Drake” conductor and dual OPGW.
  • The route required multiple road crossings and three separate utility line crossings.
  • The point of interconnection was the AEP Marysville substation.

Substation:

  • The substation included two main power transformers, six 34.5kV feeder breakers, and three 345kV circuit breakers.
  • A complete electrical control house with relay panels, communication, security, and battery system was constructed.
  • MCEU crews and subcontractors provided, installed, tested, and fully commissioned all electrical equipment.

The project was built and installed to the customer’s requirements and will provide power to the area for many years to come.
