Overview

At the conclusion of the GM Detroit Factory ZERO project, GM requested the same team of engineers, electricians, and project managers transition to the Lake Orion Assembly Plant to support a complete renovation and expansion effort. The work at this site has covered a broad and evolving scope, with
Motor City Electric Co. (MCE) engaged in both Design/Build and Design/Assist capacities. Our team is supporting critical upgrades and new infrastructure to prepare the plant for next-generation production.

Our scope of work includes:

  • New site lighting throughout the facility
  • Installation of new truck gates and pedestrian bridge
  • Expansions to the body shop and general assembly buildings
  • Rework and expansion of incoming utility power and switching infrastructure
  • Installation of a new reactor yard and utility power switch house
  • Full replacement of mechanical systems for both process and building HVAC
  • Redesign and replacement of the site’s emergency power system
  • Office renovations
  • Upgrades to the wastewater treatment facility
  • Mechanical piping freeze protection across the facility
  • New and reworked power distribution systems
  • Body shop conveyor installation
  • Installation of general assembly conveyors and tooling systems
  • Construction and process installation for the new ASRS building

The Lake Orion Assembly Plant project continues to evolve, and MCE remains fully engaged on-site, supporting GM’s ongoing efforts to modernize and expand its manufacturing capabilities.
