TAP Sports Bar, MGM Grand Detroit

TAP at MGM Grand Detroit is a new old sports pub according to hotel management. The 9,500 sq. ft. restaurant and bar feature a large bar area, the main dining room seating 292, and a private dining room for up to 100. The decor includes pressed tin ceilings, a concrete bar atop aged wood locker faces complete with locks and tags, wine barrel tables, along vintage Detroit and Michigan sports memorabilia and photographs from the historic Lindell AC.

TAP is located in the space that previously housed the Wolfgang Puck Steak restaurant, so extensive renovations were in order. Tri Builders selected Motor City Electric Co. (MCE) for the electrical work that included the wiring and installation of all of the unique lighting fixtures utilized throughout the establishment as well as the extensive A/V and data systems to power the video screens, televisions, and Wi-Fi.

In the bar and dining area, lights made from steel, rope, seeded glass, and pulleys enhance the aged aesthetic. The unique entryway wall is adorned with 75 multicolored, hand distressed wood and metal beer taps illuminated by barn lights and Edison bulbs that enhance the Old World theme.

Complimentary WiFi is available in both the bar and the restaurant. The main bar area also offers two 7 x 10-foot video walls while the private trophy room has its own walk-up bar and stage area. TAP offers more than 30 beers on tap, another 30 in bottles, and more than 40 high-definition flat-screen televisions. The restaurant serves up a range of upscale pub classics.
