Overview

Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, proudly hosted Super Bowl XL in 2006. Located next to Comerica Park, this 1.8-million-square-foot stadium is a cornerstone of Detroit’s vibrant sports district.

A Premier Sports Venue in Detroit
Constructing Ford Field was a massive undertaking, and Motor City Electric Co. (MCE) played a key role as part of the design-assist team. Our project managers, engineers, and field supervisors worked closely with general contractor Hunt/Jenkins/White/Olson and its subcontractors, ensuring a seamless process from concept and design to construction and project completion.

Advanced Technology & Engineering
MCE incorporated state-of-the-art technology, including stadium lighting, broadcast equipment, security, and telecommunications systems. Our team handled raceways and wiring for power, lighting, audio/video, and mechanical systems, ensuring that Ford Field stands out both in person and on screen.

Engineering Feat: The Roof Truss System
One of Ford Field’s most remarkable features is its 450-foot-long roof truss system. The truss was assembled on the ground and then lifted into place using a computerized system of jacks and pulleys. MCE pre-wired the structure while it was suspended 60 feet off the ground, before its final installation 128 feet above the concourse level.

On Time & On Target

Despite an aggressive schedule, the 65,000-seat Ford Field was completed in just 22 months, opening its doors on August 24, 2002, a testament to expert planning, coordination, and execution.
