Fabrication Welder - Motor City Electric

JOB SUMMARY

The Fabrication Welder will be responsible for fabricating, cutting, welding, and assembling metal components to support construction, electrical, industrial, and manufacturing projects. The Fabrication Welder will work closely with shop leadership, field operations, project managers, and other team members to ensure fabricated materials meet project requirements, quality standards, safety expectations, drawings, and specifications.

Depending on experience level, the Fabrication Welder may also be responsible for layout, fit-up, welding, material preparation, equipment operation, and quality checks for fabricated assemblies.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Fabrication, Welding, & Assembly

Perform welding, fabrication, layout, fitting, cutting, grinding, drilling, and assembly of metal components.
Fabricate supports, brackets, frames, racks, stands, assemblies, and other custom metal components.
Perform MIG, TIG, Stick, and/or Flux-Cored welding as required by the project.
Measure, cut, fit, and prepare materials to meet drawing and project requirements.

2. Technical Drawing Interpretation, & Problem Solving

Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, specifications, weld symbols, and work orders.
Assist with layout drawings, field measurements, and as-built fabrication needs when required.
Identify and resolve fabrication issues, drawing conflicts, material shortages, and fit-up problems.

3. Quality Assurance & Compliance

Inspect completed welds and fabricated assemblies for accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications.
Perform quality checks and make adjustments or repairs as needed.

4. Operations, Coordination & Support

Operate fabrication tools and equipment including saws, grinders, drills, torches, plasma cutters, presses, and welding machines.
Assist with material handling, staging, loading, unloading, and organization of fabricated materials.
Coordinate with shop supervision, Field Operations, and Project Managers to meet project schedules and quality expectations.
Support field crews with fabricated components and special project requirements.

5. Safety, Equipment & Work Environment

Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and proper use of PPE.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and specifications
Experience with MIG welding
Ability to accurately use tape measures, squares, levels, calipers, and other measuring tools
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced shop environment
Ability to work under time constraints and adapt to changing project requirements with a positive attitude
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and workmanship
Ability to be self-motivated and proactive
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to shared goals.
Ability to interact professionally with supervisors, peers, field crews, suppliers, customers, and other project stakeholders
Must be able to stand, bend, lift, carry, and work safely in a fabrication shop environment

Preferred

3-5 years of welding and fabrication experience
Shop and field fabrication experience
TIG, Stick, and Flux-Cored welding experience
Welding certification preferred; AWS certification is a plus
Experience in commercial, industrial, manufacturing, or electrical construction fabrication
Knowledge of structural steel, supports, brackets, frames, racks, cable tray supports, skids, and custom fabrication
Knowledge of steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other common fabrication materials is beneficial
Forklift, overhead crane, rigging, or material handling experience is a plus
Driver’s license and reliable means of transportation

Full-time position located in Fraser, Michigan.
